Teachers would pause and stumble on it, and no one knew how to pronounce it (Courtenay rhymes with Fort Lee), spell it, or how many syllables it had (two). People understood right away what I was saying, and I didn't have to spell or repeat it. I'm impressed and touched when someone takes the time to spell my name correctly, and it's made me hyper-aware of spelling others' names right. Because I always had to spell and repeat my name, I wanted my own kids to have short, simple ones. I once hoped that I might marry someone with a short, easy last name, but it was not to be.

Watching the reveal, I found myself involuntarily gasping as researchers Mark Chen and Barret Zoph showed off GPT-4o’s new chops. The freakout aspect of the reveal came from how it demonstrated that GPT-4o isn’t just a tool — it’s a tool with personality. On the one hand, having the option to interrupt your AI chatbot when it’s going astray saves time. On the other, watching dudes repeatedly talking over a female-reading chatbot made it abundantly clear why you can’t spell “mansplain” without AI.

GCHQ, the UK’s largest intelligence agency, is looking for new recruits and has released a new visual puzzle to test the skills of anyone interested in a role. GCHQThe answer to the puzzle has been released on the new GCHQ LinkedIn page. The puzzle is part of a recruitment drive by the agency, which says it offers a number of different careers, some of which do not require a degree. GCHQ director Anne Keast-Butler said the agency needs “the right mix of minds” to deal with the challenges of a complex world. “For us, that means bringing in people with different backgrounds, different experience, different insights, different knowledge, and creating a team where all of us can play our part.
